Wisdom teeth and tooth extraction

Your dentist may refer you to us for extraction of a tooth. Or you may want to call our office if you’re having pain or symptoms related to your wisdom teeth. The ideal time to have wisdom teeth removed is before you’re 25 years old, but it is possible to remove them at an older age. We have the specialized staff, skillset and equipment that makes getting out broken, impacted, infected or otherwise difficult teeth much easier and less stressful. In conjunction with a wide range of anaesthetic options available such as IV sedation or general anaesthesia, even removing difficult, impacted teeth can be leave you with a positive experience. Speaking of experience – experience counts! Our oral surgeon has six years of additional training in oral surgery beyond dental school. Both he and our anaesthesia providers have received post graduate training in sedation and anaesthesia. For more information about wisdom teeth extraction, click here.

Dental Implants

A natural tooth and a dental implant have the same working components – a root and a crown. The root is what supports the tooth and holds it in place, while the crown is the part that is visible inside your mouth. When a tooth is missing or needs to be replaced, our Hamilton oral and maxillofacial surgeon will discuss options of inserting a dental implant into the area. Our Downtown Sleep Dentistry and Oral Surgery oral and maxillofacial surgeon has advanced training in dental implant surgery and does so with the most up-to-date technology.  We look forward to discussing dental implant options with you and helping you achieve the smile you deserve.

Bone Grafting

When you are missing a tooth for an extended period of time, your jaw bone will start to degenerate due to the lack of function in that area. As a certified Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon in Hamilton, Dr. Cuddy has the ability to repair these areas with healthy bone obtained from a tissue bank or taken from the jaw, hip or tibia. After bone grafting surgery, your jaw will have better functionality and aesthetic appearance.

Exposure of Impacted Teeth

An impacted tooth is simply a tooth that cannot erupt naturally and grow into it’s proper space. To assist in the growth process, our Hamilton oral surgeon will lift up the gum to expose the tooth. Once the tooth is accessible our oral surgeon will work with your orthodontist and together will form a plan to move the tooth into place.
Wisdom teeth also commonly become impacted. When this is the case, we will uncover the teeth from inside the gum and extract them.

Oral Pathology

Healthy skin inside your mouth (mucosa) is smooth and pink in colour. If the texture or colour of this skin changes in anyway, it could be a warning sign that something is going on and needs to be investigated further. Some warning signs include:

  • Patches of darker red or white colours in the mouth;
  • A long-lasting sore that is caused by an unknown reason and bleeds easily on touch;
  • A lump or thickening on the skin;
  • Chronic sore throat or hoarseness and/or difficulty in chewing or swallowing

Should you have any of these issues or have an area of concern you would like to discuss, please contact us as soon as possible. Never ignore any warning signs that something could be wrong with your health – it is better to check and find issues early than when it is too late.

Please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange an opportunity to review any questions you may have about how we can help you with all of your Oral and Maxillofacial surgery needs.
