First-Time Patient?
Our Hamilton dentist office is full of caring and understanding staff members to help you. We are here to answer any questions you may have to alleviate any of your concerns or worries.
Comfortable and safe
Downtown Sleep Dentistry and Oral Surgery patients don’t need to have complex dental requirements to prefer adult dental sedation. Some require sedation or anaesthesia to complete routine dental care. Patients may have but are not limited to:
- Anxiety, fear or phobia of dentistry and its associated sounds or smells;
- Difficulty getting numb with local anaesthesia;
- Strong gag reflexes;
- Movement disorders, inability to be stationary;
- Physical or mental disability;
- Extensive dental disease.
Please understand that you are not alone. Our downtown Hamilton dental office is judgement free! Did you know that 15% of the population is very fearful of dentistry? And almost half of Canadians would like some form of adult dental sedation for more invasive dental procedures. As experts in the field, we also know that many people with high dental anxiety will put off dental visits and that this can lead to a lot of problems. So if you have neglected your oral health and now embarrassed by your teeth – please don’t be! Downtown Sleep Dentistry and Oral Surgery is the office that was designed for you, and we’re here to help you improve your oral health again!
Oral health is such an important factor in your overall health. It promotes good digestion, helps prevent tooth and TMJ pain, as well as infection and supports your jaws to prevent the look of early aging. Good oral health is associated with improvements in heart disease, stroke, dementia, diabetes and decreases in total body inflammation (which is associated with most disease processes).
We offer a wide range of oral health services for our patients under any level of adult dental sedation that feels right to you, including:
Exams and oral cancer screenings
We encourage all of our patients to maintain regular six-month check-ups and cleanings so we can detect and treat any early signs of tooth decay or gum disease. Oral check ups and cleanings with adult dental sedation include scaling and polishing your teeth to help you avoid cavities, gum disease, recession of the gums, tooth discolouration and more. We also provide an oral cancer screening at each appointment.
Implants; Implant Dentures, Teeth in a Day or All on Four Dentures
Whether a tooth needs to be replaced or you are missing all of your teeth, we offer different treatment options to support the replacement of your teeth. This can include a dental implant to replace one tooth, or implants to support poorly fitting dentures, or implants to retain a special type of denture that is semi-permanently mounted in the mouth. Recent advances have make it possible to give people back solid, functional and aesthetic teeth and dentures.
Root Canals
When a filling isn’t enough, a root canal may be required to save your tooth. A root canal is necessary when bacteria invade the hollow space inside the tooth. Simply taking medication only temporarily decreases symptoms. Root canal therapy can predictably and successfully solve the infection and allow one to keep their tooth. Since we have an Endodontist (root canal specialist) at our office, we offer high quality root canal therapy with adult dental sedation and anaesthesia. Never fear a root canal again!
Teeth Whitening
Teeth may yellow or stain over time. This happens due to age, years of eating acidic and sugary foods, drinking alcohol and caffeine or smoking. We know how important it is to keep your pearly whites as white as possible, which is why we offer personalized take-home teeth whitening solutions. Remember that whitening works best right after a professional cleaning.
Botox
For our patients suffering from pain due to muscle-related dental issues such as clenching, bruxism or Temporomanidbular disorders, we utilize Botox treatments. These injections help relax the facial muscles, which in turn relieves pain.
Digital X-rays
Digital radiography emits less radiation than other forms of X-ray technology and is safe for our patients of all ages when used responsibly. We take only the minimum number of necessary imaging. Not only are they used for looking for cavities between teeth that are not visible, but are also a helpful tool when planning for future growth and development.
Fillings
It is important that once a cavity is detected, it is treated swiftly to avoid any pain, infection and possible root canals. Though cavities are common, they are very much preventable with daily oral health care maintenance. We can comfortably complete any dental filling with the right level of adult dental sedation that suits your needs.
Biopsies
In order to get a proper diagnosis, an oral biopsy is required when:
- There is a new lesion or growth on the soft tissue, or a change in one that has been previously identified
- there are long-term inflammatory changes for an unknown reason;
- a lesion interferes with proper oral function;
- for bone lesions that are not specifically identified by clinical examination and X-rays, or any oral lesion that has the characteristics of a malignancy.
Extractions including Wisdom teeth
Extraction of a tooth or wisdom teeth often performed under some form of sedation. We have a specialized skillset, staff and equipment that makes getting out broken, impacted, infected or otherwise difficult teeth much easier and less stressful.Bridges
Do you have one or multiple missing teeth? Leaving gaps between your teeth can cause them to shift and which can cause bite and jaw issues. Your customized dental bridge will be affixed to surrounding teeth while the bridged teeth effectively replace any gaps, leaving you with a functional and full healthy smile. The best part is that the bridge is permanently cemented so that it will look and feel like the missing tooth has been completely replaced.
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder
If you have ever experienced any pain, popping or clicking in your jaw you probably have heard the term temporomandibular joint or TMJ disorder. This is the joint that is responsible for allowing your mouth to open and close. Our Hamilton TMJ specialist will review all treatment options with you to determine which is best for your specific needs.
Veneers
Porcelain veneers can repair minor cracks, chips and misshapen or discoloured teeth. Veneers are very thin layers of porcelain that are shaped and bonded to the front of your teeth by a dental professional. The veneers are also colour-matched to the rest of your teeth for a seamless, beautiful look. They are often a great choice to improve the aesthetics of your front teeth.
Periodontal (Gum)
disease therapy
Depending on the stage of periodontal disease, there are different ways of treating the infected/ concerning area including through a range of non-surgical and surgical procedures. Initially we have to stop the growth of bacteria surrounding the gums and if necessary, a surgical procedure done with adult dental sedation and anaesthesia can then restore the tissue around the teeth.
Bone Grafting
When you are missing a tooth for an extended period of time, your jaw bone will start to degenerate due to the lack of function in that area. As a certified Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon in Hamilton, Dr. Cuddy has the ability to repair these areas with healthy bone obtained from a tissue bank or taken from the jaw, hip or tibia. After bone grafting surgery, your jaw will have better functionality and aesthetic appearance.Crowns
If your tooth has suffered damage from being infected, cracked, broken or removed after a root canal, dental crowns can restore the function and appearance. Often referred to as a “cap,” dental crowns look and feel completely like your natural teeth.
Downtown Sleep Dentistry and Oral Surgery suggests you begin by booking a consultation appointment to determine your eligibility for safe treatment and dental needs. Once our dental professionals assess your overall and dental health, we can begin looking at management options. Some adults are fine with a lighter form of sedation for exams and cleanings, but would like to be asleep for more invasive dental treatments – no problem! At our Hamilton dental office we offer patient-centered care, and we will tailor a sedation plan just for you.
